Ticket 58: Write a Descant

A descant is second contrasting vocal melody, often with more or less the same lyrics, but with a different rhythm, that happens at the same time as the main vocal. Writing and performing one takes a lot of skill to make it work, but it's worth it. You can achieve a similar effect but layering the vocals to one section over another (e.g. Eleanor Rigby, Djimi Traore)

Eleanor Rigby
Happiness Is A Warm Gun
Hello Goodbye
Help
It Won't Be Long Now
She's Leaving Home

also

California Dreaming (Mamas And The Papas)
Djimi Traore (Matt Blick)
Good Vibrations (Beach Boys)
Ignorance Is Bliss (Jellyfish)
Sloop John B (Beach Boys)
The Ghost Of Number One (Jellyfish)
