Trudy Pitts & Pat Martino - Not A Second Time
Here's the first in an occasional series of Beatles covers that you wouldn't want to hear more than once! Trudy Pitts & Pat Martino playing a track which sounds like THEY haven't heard it more than once - Eleanor Rigby
Enjoy!
It's funny--jazz guitarists doing the Beatles always come out terrible. I remember a version of "A Day in the Life" by Wes Montgomery that was just awful... let's see, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ9GKfUy-vs . He did a version of Eleanor Rigby on the same album ("A Day in the Life").
Like Wes, Pat Martino is a great guitarist, but this, this... Maybe there should be law about jazz and the Beatles: just don't go there.
Interesting point Rodii! I'm sure there must be a good jazz cover out there but you know, I can't think of a single one! Anyone else out there?
For what it's worth, I don't think the Montgomery is terrible per se, it just bears no relation to the original song. I defy anyone to name the track before about 3:20!
Yeah, that's pretty bad. Sounds like a lounge band that's been up for three days without sleep while doing too many drugs and listening to CAN albums.
ReplyDeleteHaha - more like a CAN'T album!!!
